Man Cave Ideas For Your Next #RemodelWithAbbey

Revised June 8, 2018- Here’s your chance to make it up to Dad if you didn’t remodel with Abbey Design Center at the beginning of the year. The Washington Capitals won the Stanley Cup last night! Create the man-haven for Dad in time for football season. Help him cheer on the Washington Redskins! You never know what could happen…

Start 2018 off with a place to watch your favorite sports team or as a place to escape for a bit! These man cave ideas and design tips can help you turn your basement from unfinished and boring to luxurious and invited!

Step 1: Decide on a Concept

Whether you’re looking to create a personal home theater, a sports-bar theme, or a full in-home gym, decide on a concept with your designer and watch the themes and styles come to life! The “Man Cave” can either be a complete escape from reality or a functional space the whole family will love! By adding in fixtures such as comfy couches and large televisions, you create a space that is just as inviting as it is stunning.

Step 2: Use Dark Colors to Create a “Cave Effect”

Dark wood and paint colors such as gray and navy are in. Create the cave effect by using colors and hardwood that complement each other and resemble earthier tones. Dark, wide hardwood is currently all the rage in home design. Naturally dark woods such as cherry, or walnut will give your space the comfortable feel you’re looking for. If your home has young kids or dogs, you may want to try scraped hardwood. Scraped hardwood is a natural hardwood surface that doesn’t show scratches easily.

As for paint colors, try a light shade of navy or gray to give the room a dark and cozy feel and it will go nicely with the dark hardwood flooring. A deep shade of beige is also a great color that will complement the brown hardwood.

Step 3: Man Cave Must Have: The Bar

An in-home wet bar is extremely popular and gives each man cave their own personal twist! Entertain your family and neighbors right in the comfort of your own home!  Complement your cave concept with dark bar stools and appliances that stand out. Adding a beer and wine fridge will not only keep your drinks cool and refreshing but also adds a “Wow!” factor that your guests will love. Adding recessed lighting creates just the right amount of ambient lighting for the bar or home theater to get the true movie theater experience. Finish the bar off with a beautiful granite countertop and dark accenting colors with a contrasting light slab, such as beige, to make the bar really stand out and shine.

Add light tile flooring around your bar to separate it from the rest of the room. Tile is great for cleaning up spills that can happen around the bar area, while hardwood can damage more easily than tile.

Step 4: Add a Focal Point

Once the space is created, decide on a focal point to complete the space. Fireplaces make an excellent focal point in addition to making the room toasty and warm in the winter. Accent the room with a fireplace created with lighter stone to complement the darker hardwood and furniture in your man cave. Another popular focal point is classic bar games such as darts or even a pool table. With the right table, you can match your entertainment with the wood and design of the space itself.
