Outdoor Kitchens: The Perfect Summer Remodel

With summer just around the corner, a lot of homeowners consider some form of home interior remodeling. While Abbey Design Center provides stellar work in the form of kitchen, bath, basement remodeling and more, we can also spruce up the exterior of your home with some outdoor renovations! One of our remodeling options that are popular this time of year is an outdoor kitchen.  If you’re planning on expanding your kitchen to the great outdoors, there are a few things to consider:

Sealed paved and concrete works well in regards to durability. Natural stone blocks with a lower porosity are also ideal, like granite. Also, make it a priority to find materials highly resistant to grease stains and able to withstand high temperatures. The easier the kitchen is to clean and maintain, the more you will use and enjoy your investment!

Low maintenance materials like stainless steel provide a sleek appearance while being easily cleaned and corrosion-resistant. While natural stone counters can be a beautiful aesthetic, keep in mind they require sealing on a regular basis. Avoid porous materials such as limestone, and avoid tile countertops when the colder seasons approach.

It’s best to think about an outdoor kitchen as a new ‘room’. A lot of the time these rooms are seen as additions to other preexisting spaces like the pool deck and outdoor dining areas. Consider the flow of traffic that might go through these areas and select an area that is accessible but still part of the action. You wouldn’t want to separate the cook from the party, they are the most important person there after-all.
